This pic portrays three GOOD hunters, who hail from Michigan (Francis, isn't this somewhat of an oxymoron): while at THE RANCH, we enouunter this trio almost every year . . . they represent MAJOR competition for the best mule deer bucks! But who couldn't RESPECT fellow hunters who , 'get 'er done', fair and square, and who's boot soles know the paraire? This year, we had a rare opportunity to vist a little more than usual and I got them to pose for some hasty snap-shots (which I framed/exposed rather poorly) . . . while BIG MIKE tried to exrtract their favorite "hot-spots" ! ;)
From left to right: Brett, Jesse, Larry. Bret (Larry's son) nailed his very nice buck at 50-55 yards, using his trusty .270 Win. and a 130 Gr. Hornady Inter-Lock load, assembled by Larry. Larry dropped his nifty buck using his new 45/70 at something close to two hundred yards - Francis, you've got to get your peers under control! ;) HA!
Larry and I discussed hunting techniques - ours are polarized - just more proof of the adage: "there's more than one way to skin a cat'! ;) Our varying methods probably compliment one another: THEY are primarily "sneakers", stalking about the coulies and jump shooting, while We are principally "glassers", sitting on our posteriors, then stalking from afar following "spotting" game, then devising a plan: both methods seem to work! :) We resort to "sneaking" only when we fail to "glass" deer or, when the wind drives them deeper into the draws; this method makes for instant evaluation and decision making . . .and often, ground shrinkage! :( Obviously, Jesse and Co. know SNEAKING! :)
Due to the ongoing drought, bucks of any variety proved difficult to find - Jesse, Larry and Bret - you da MEN! RG
P.S. Since AL let-the-cat-out-of-the-bag, please note, that when I, "strike a line through it", my intent is an affectionate symbol of praise and respect . . . I can't be goin' all musshy now, can I ?
