                                    Rock Chucks 4-13-06

It was a day we have waited for all Spring. The weatherman had been predicting 70 degrees and light winds for today. Dave and I had taken the chance to plan around that forecast and low and behold- it happened.

We met in our usual place in Nampa at 9:a.m. and off we went. The first spot is one we have hit over many years and the farmer is pleased with our success but we have them thinned down pretty good. The main reason I wanted to stop was to foul the bore, having cleaned it after our last outing. Not to be one to waste a good bullet, we also fouled 3 rock chucks.

So off to the new spot we went. We headed toward the new rock piles that we were altered to by the farmer on our previous trip. When we stopped and glassed the new area we found the chucks were running amuck as described by the landowner. We set up in a spot that presented a good vantage point.(300-600 yards)  The 6mm HTG was performing beautifully.  We were on the lookout for quality shoots and made some good ones.

When we had run most of the survivors to ground we moved to another vantage point and pulled out the 22 Cheetah for some closer shots. Dave says that there is no lag time between touching the trigger and impact. It is like the hammer of god. I have a muzzle brake on it and you can consistently see the hits through the scope. We totaled 13 chucks at the new farm before things started to slow down. The chucks retire during mid-day and as usual, there are 2 parts to the Rock Chuck expedition equation and 2 recurring themes.

Good shooting & Good food, so off we headed to the best Mexican restaurant  in Idaho.

Happy Trails
