The rifle is a Rem. 700. It started out as a 17 rem with 1-10 twist barrel. Rem. came out with this rifle back in the late 70's. I used it as is for many years hunting fox, then the accuracy really droped so i decided to have it rebuilt. I took it to Stan in Westbrook Mn. Stan ordered a Lija barrel with 1-9" twist, so i could shoot 30 gr. bullets. The action was trued and blue printed, after market recoil lug was installed. Stan also replaced trigger with a Timney. Firing pin and spring was replaced with one from speedlock systems. Barrel was fluted with six flutes, and chamber was made with .196 N.D. not real tight just enough so i could clean up the necks on the brass. Barrel was sent in to have freeze treatment. I am a firm believer in this product, and seen the results, it helps. The barrel is 24" from muzzle to end of chamber. Stan put gun together and it was starting to look good, except for the old wooden stock. Stan put on old stock so i could take it out and break it in. In the mean time Stan ordered a new stock from McMillan. got the 17 rem broken in, and then had new desert camo McMillan stock installed. I replaced the leopold scope i had on the 17 rem with a new super sniper 10x with a Kenton BDC dial ,30 mm tube . I tried two bullet brands one was the 30 gr. gold by woodchuck den, the other was 30 gr. ltb by walt Berger. Both bullets performed really well, 1/2 " groups. The powder i selected was N-140 and N-540, got same resuls from both of them. I started with a benchrest primer, cci-br-4, and Fed 210. they did'nt seem to be doing the job so i switched to rem. 7 1/2 and the groups really tightened up. Still 1/2 " group but tighter and more rounded. Field report is as follows shot 22 yotes from 100-454 yards, one shot kills, even shot a coyote running straight away up the p%#*&%%% shute. No fur damage. Been testing the 17 rem. on paper at different yardages, the bdc dial seems to be doing its job. The group i showed you guys on previse post was shot at 600 yds with a barrel that had 75 rds fired through it, no cleaning. I shot groups earlyier with clean barrel and they were about half that size, some bullet holes would be 1/2" apart. the black square is 2" from corner to corner the circle is 8" dia. Kill zone on yote. the group size was 6 1/2" on last post pic. well thats my $ 2.00 worth for now. All take care and good shooting. Tim A. VARextr@hotmail.com
