Hi All;
Has been a good Fall here in Idaho. Weather has been nice allowing me plenty of range time. I may get all my Winter buildum projects done before Winter gets here.
My biggest success so far has been the Panda based 30BR I built 2 weeks ago. With Randy's help and encouragement I jumped into this project with much gusto. His experience and suggestions have saved me from reinventing the wheel. Yesterday I did some serious load development and when I shot score targets, the X's were easy to come by. 3 targets and out of the 18 bulls, only one ten and that just barely missed being and X. My conformation group was .120" c/c. Was a little windy and switchy and the temp was about 40 degrees. The data is:
Barrel=17 twist 3 groove lilja
powder= H4198Ext.=34gr. 2960fps
primer=CCI small BR
brass= 6BR Lapua
bullets=118gr Bib 7 ogive=same as with my Hunter Rifle
Also have been working with my 6mm HTG which is a .080" shoulder shortened 6/284. I started working with this rifle about a month ago and the first time at the range with it, it shot awesome. I was using RL22 and my load with 107gr Sierras was very accurate.(3290fps) I used this rifle again yesterday with the same load and things had changed. Used the same everything and got 3190fps. The accuracy went from tight groups to a pattern. Really ugly. I tried H4831SC but it was not the solution.
The only difference from the first to the second outing was about 20 degrees cooler yesterday than the first time. Do any of you have experience with RL22 being that temp sensitive? The case is far from full even though it is shortened so I guess my next try will be with a slower power; probably H1000.
The other project went really well also. I bought an Edge stock from Randy and reinlet and bedded it for my Hunter Rifle. It works great and is so light that it will let me use all of the fat end of my next barrel, which I may never get to use cause old trusty(3500 rounds) shot X's with the new stock.
You kids have a good Thanksgiving.
