Wayne,
First off the .150 deep is plenty deep for the lug, which ends up just as wide and deep as the std. Kodiak. It is also screwed to the receiver with two 8x32 s/s allen head screws. My belief is that the lug should be up front. If you remember some bolt action rifles (Rem. 788 and some of the Savage models) had the lugs to the rear of the bolt. When fired the pressures can escalate from 55,000 to 60,000 pounds pressure. The metal acutally gets compressed at this point and higher pressures are even worse. When the bolt is compressed the case comes rearward expands and then is driven forward by the bolt when the pressure goes down. This is why one gets a sticky bolt with the 788 when you start to stand on them. I still get at least 2 788's every year to silver solder the bolt back on... and in every case the guy handloading was trying to gain velocity. The action does this also to some extent and the farther back the worse you are off in my opion. Of course is you stay within the SAMMI approved specs the compression is min.and normally would not give you trouble.
