Seal a deal on a M700 and if you land a short action M700 I have a factory synthetic stock that you can have for whatever shipping cost...I think you can "chop" it down to fit (Stan, am I correct?) retaining the other stock so your son can grow into it and if it does not work then you won't have much invested......got another idea for the years ahead to fill your son's time with hunting experience....get him interested in archery!...the seasons are long in most states, limits are liberal, most of the achery seasons START in mild weather, and on and on and on....(you can tell I enjoy archery can't you!).
