Well, per Stan's Hmmmm and Todd's request for more info, here's the deal on my BAT HBR rig - I didn't get the specs on the action model, but compared to the one Huff got, mine is the 'good one'! ;) The best part, I got the WHOLE thing for about the same price as Allen had to part with for a new action!!

Seriously, I went down and got the following off the receiver: BAT Machine Co., Inc., Rathdrum, ID B82 - don't have a clue what any of that measns. It appears to have the same screw-hole spacing as a Remington short action. Complete with Jewell trigger and LeeSix stock, Davidson bases, paint (ugly and thick - a RWB spray-can job) and an aluminum but plate, it weighs 8Lb. 12.8 Oz; that leaves only 19 Oz. for scope and rings . . .  Hmmmmm. The only attribute I do not like is the 'closed' (Nesika Style) cocking piece/shroud . . but I suppose, for disassembling the bolt, my Nesika tool will work just fine. I am told that all of the later BAT actions feature a 'bayonet' type firing pin/cocking piece/shroud assembly, which disassembles without a special tool.

It came with a Lilja 1:15" twist  BBL (6groove) chambered for .30x44 - the previous owner threw in the dies, fired and unfired (sized, trimmed and neck turned) - all the normal stuff. It appears that the previous owner was enamored of the 'fitted neck' theory - I'll fix THAT [pronto] with a properly adjusted neck turner! The bedding checks out good - a little better than what D.G. had going for him this spring !  ;)

According to the previous owner, the rig SHOOTS (I trust him) and has roughly 800 rounds through the barrel - I have not bore scoped it yet, but I suspect that unless it was altered following last year's NBRSA Hunter Nationals (Raton, NM), the neck/free bore/throat are suspect; that would be a quick fix via either a new barrel, or, simply running my nifty new PPG neck/throat reamer in to some distance (to be determined later - kind o' like a BIG League trade ya know) . . . .OK, I couldn't stand it - I took a break and scoped it - a very nice looking throat (very uniform), with only rudimentary signs of 'fire'cracking' . . but it has a LONG free bore; I'd guess about 0.10" of it!  :( A little tougher, but I can fix THAT too.

If I can make time to ( read: have the GUTS) I'll shoot it in the next tournament - that'll pretty well let me know what I've got . . . at present, all I now for sure: comapred to Huff's, mine is WAY COOL! ;) Oh, an' SMOOTHER too!

If it SHOOTS, I may try to sweet talk Mike Ricklefs into repainting it for me . . the stock  seems pretty decent on the bags . . .

Keep 'em ON the X! R.G.
