It is interesting the to hear about the  different "hunting regulations" in other states and to examine those in relation to regs in one's own state. The only "shotgun only" (slugs, single projectile) areas we have here are on military reservations and one WMA. I think that muzzleloaders are also allowed during these hunts but no modern pistol. During the statewide firearm season any centerfire rifle or pistol is permitted... The reg used to state that the pistol must be chambered for a cartridge that could be found chambered in in a long gun/rifle but that verbage is not present in the 2004-05 guide, I guess a person could legally hunt with a .25 acp (????) .

Relating to your "gun hunting" story of 25 years ago,  It is so unfortunate that some get so "caught up" in the hunt that basic "gun safety" (or just general safety rules) is/are forgotton........ and as far as regulating etihics goes, I  agree it is not easily done (if not impossible)...ethics must (IMO) be acquired through an education process and not a regulation process...

Sounds like you have a great hunting companion in your friend Joe.....I really like your last sentance in your post....." A hunt is often best measured by what could/may have been" ...very well put.
