Al, I can offer only a speculative view - it's likely a scheduling/copy deadline issue.

When I assumed management of the American Conference ( the younger of the two - the National Conference was the ORIGINAL TcL), only the National Conference results/news letter were presented in P.S.  In my humble way, I asked Dave Brennan if he would consider publishing the American Conference results along with the NC "news" . . . I was fully prepared to send BIG MIKE to 222 McKee Street, Manchester, Connecticut, with instructions to, " rearrange the way Mr. Brennan thinks."

Of course, this proved unnecessary - Dave see's THE BIG PICTURE, thus recognized straight away that publishing both the American and National Conference news would be good for the sport! I might add that Dave never charged us a penny! And, indeed, coverage in PS prompted a notable growth AND betterment of the American Conference!

When I became American Conference dictator, [the late] Bob Pease, TcL founder,  considered the AC  "the farm league". There was little in the way of parity - my goal was to change THAT . . and with the help of PRECISION SHOOTING, the goal was achieved - indeed, at the termination of my reign, the American Conference was arguably the stornger conference. Of THAT, I remain proud, thankful & respectful of my asscoiation with the clubs, competitors, Dave Brennan and PRECISION SHOOTING.

The most demanding aspect of managing the TcL and getting the results published was meeting the copy deadline; having been involved in printing and publishing throughout my career, something I understood, but none the less scorned. Often, the club results would not arrive until the night before the copy MUST make it to the Post Office - and then would require "NEXT DAY" service! Thus, producing the proper degree of slander and sophomoric humor, equated to long sessions of "free wheeling" & unedited writing - often embarrasing. As with most difficult work, something one can look back and enjoy. However, the monthly dread and hassle can develope in much the [well chronicled] manner as Mt. St. Hellens of late! ;)

Combine the propensity of many to delay their report until the last possible moment with trying to schedule the club's initial event, within a time frame compatible with the afore mentioned [PS copy] deadline, and things can "slip".  When attempts were made to move the report deadlines up, providing a [club] report deadline which preceeded the PS deadline by even two weeks, there was a LOT of grumbling  AND confusion - it was amazing how may would believe the report deadline had been moved BACK two weeks . . . . When working to a deadline, it is imparitive to have CONTROL of the variables. AS with most dictators, my ability to communicate was poor. ;)

In short, the likely cause is conflicting schedules/deadlines.

Please do not consider this as "bitching" - it is simply an attempt to shed a little light on some of the behind the scenes  problems one encounters when trying to manage something which, on the surface, seems so easy. I was involved in managing the American Conference from 1987 through 2002 and would not trade any of it . . .

I can, without reservation, tell you this: Larry Cribbs, Head Beaver, Pond Froth Swiller Extraordinaire, File Smith, and butt of many of my slanderous barbs, was the MOST solid supporter of both old & NEW concepts of anyone I know - a TRUE proponent of Hunter Rifle Competition! Larry is a man with whom I am proud to argue! ;)

Keep 'em ON the X! R.G.
