I did not get my hands on a hard copy, so will rely on memory - risky, but I'll get it close to correct . . .
Dave Greene, shootin' 125 Gr. bullets ( 10 ogivex1.00" long jacket) through a 1:17" twist Lilja, chambered for the 30x47HBR, nabbed the 100 Yd Hunter Calss victory via a fine 250-19x. ConGratulations, Dave!
Al Nyhus, via a 249-something, claimed the 200 Yard HBR title - yep, another Lilja 1:17 - this time with 118 Gr. bullets. Congratulations, AL!
Dave Greene, via a fine 498-something, was crowned 2003 Iowa State Hunter Rifle Champion ! Dave is walkin' in tall cotton!
Then, during the 100 Yd. stage of the VfS Championship, Mike Ricklefs, comming off a .234MOA Agg. at the IA State group Championships last month, piloted his .30BR to a nifty 250-19X, posting yet another yardage win for the "little cartridge that can't"! ;) Mike, congratulations on your win! I believe MR. Ricklefs' rig features a Krieger 1:18" twist barrel; Mike used 118 Gr. 10 ogive bullets.
Dave Greene, not quite burned out by his HBR victory, maintained a rather low profile while putting together a semi-respectable 250-something, thus garnering the 200 Yd. VfS title! ;) Congratulations Dave! While Dave was demonstrating the superiority of the .30BR, Stan Ware held his feet to the fire via 249-11X score, which Mr. Ware posted using his HUNTER Rifle, complete with 6x scope! Great shootin' by both Dave and Stan . . .
Naturally, via his 500-something, Dave Greene was awarded his second Iowa State Championship Grand Aggregate trophy in as many days! Congratulations. Out of respect for SCORE shooters, Mr. Greene left his "deer huntin' garb hanging in the closet back home! ;)
Further, Dave Greene's TWO GUN AGG. was close enough to the newly established IBS World Record (recently recognized as official and held by Dale Fritts - 998-48X, I believe) that the targets were submitted to the IBS Records committee for consideration! Great shootin, Dave!
As was the case at the previous weeks Wisconsin State Championships, the 6PPC shooters, while able to make their presence known, were unable to collect any 1st place hardware - that ALL fell into the hands of .30BR/30x47/30x44 users and various combinations of 'light' thirty caliber bullets (112-125 Gr.) and either Lilja 1:17 or PacNor 1:18" twist barrels . . . still, there are doubters and detractors . . .
Bottom line: WINNERS WIN and losers WHINE! ;)
Keep 'em ON the X! R.G.
