Al, here is what I can state for sure:
There were 22 entrants with REAL HBR rigs and one miscreant, who shot a Ruger .243 at 100 Yd. (nothing exceptionally EVIL there), then swithced to his .460 Weatherby Mag. for the two hundred . . . naturally, it was my good fortune to be his neighbor.
Had there been the slightest evidence of an attempt at precision and accurately placed shots, the afternoon would have been more tolerable - unfortunately, no such evidence was presented . . the individual simply lacked common decency - he couldn't even keep his shots inside the intended SQUARE.
Craig Nagel, thoroughly whipped here in IA two weeks ago, went back to the dells and screwed on the new barrel which he was saving (for something) - Craig promptly won the 100 via 250-19X; first loser was Phil Sholze @ 250-18; second loser was yours truly @ 250-16 (two Lilja 1:17s and my PacNor 1:18; Phil used 125 Gr. bullets; Craig and I shot 112s). Six of the top seven used bullets weighing 125 Gr. or less . . .
At two hundred, Brian Miller, fresh off his 499-something Grand Agg. at VanDyne the previous day, posted a nifty 248-7x for the win. Roy Oines nabbed first loser position @ 247-8; your truly was second loser @ 247-4 . . . . Mr. Miller used a 1:15/125 Gr. combination; Roy shot 112s via a Lilja 1:17 and I used 112s via the PacNor 1:18 . . . Five of the top six used bullets of 125 Gr. or less; four of the top six used [so called] slow twist barrels . . .
Via his 200 Yd. win, Brian Miller out Xed the BI and nabbed the BIG Wood: his total score of 497-22X was two Xes better than my first loser tally;Craig Nagel (495-22X) was third; Dick Baier (150 Gr. heritic) was fourth via 495-20, while Roy Oines, 495-17 completed the top five. Four of the top five used bullets of 125 Gr. or less; three of the top five used either 1:17 or 1:18" twist barrels . . .
Of note, three of the new guys, all shootin' 150Gr. bullets, left with battle scars - and not the mental sort - all of them were scope eyed at least once . .one poor chap managed a double tap! ;) Seven of the 22 were shooting 150 Gr. bullets and two used 135Gr. bullets . . . we noticed that even those using 'brand X' bullets seem to be migrating twoard bullets of 130GR. or less. Also worthy of note, despite the light conditions, those shooting 150 Gr. bullets managed a LOT of pretty ugly NINES and a few EIGHTS! In my opinion, this demonstrates that BC ain't everything! ;) In theory, assuming a well tuned and properly zeroed rifle, it should have been nearly IMPOSSIBLE to miss the ten ring via 150 Gr. bullets; via the 112s, there was at most 2.0" of left/right . . .and a LOT less recoil! ;)
The weather was decent, with the occasional shower, but light, switchy conditions prevailed - when the sun was out, the mirage worked over those who failed to note the reversals quickly enough.
22 competitors is a pretty decent turnout - it looks as though HBR is alive and well . . and growing there were five first time competitors who sported REAL Hunter rifles!
I gotta get back to sticking pins in the VooDoo doll B4 Brian starts feeling better! ;) Keep 'em ON the X! R.G.
