Edit

I suspect that in this day and age it is not a matter of one barrel vs another one.  All the 17twist Lilja I have put on rifles rifles belonging to others started shooting as soon as a load, seating depth, and shooter technique was established.  The one I put on my OWN rifle is the only one that gave me fits.  That said I must admit that after about 1500 rounds I gave it one last try, I went back to the load, seating depth, bullet weight that I used with my 15 twist.  46.3gr of N140, bullet .015" into the lands and the 134gr 10 ogive BIB.  First trip to the range 250 18X.................... That was about 2500 rounds ago.  249-250, high X counts, little or no fouling, (only clean about every 30 or so rounds). Who knows.  I cannot comment on the Hart 18 twist as I have never installed one.  I can say this though, barrel makers are doing one helluva job for us.  I use almost all Lilja barrels for my customers and have not had one that did not perform. The several Hart barrels (15 twist) I have installed have done very, very well.  My experience with twist rates is that any twist slower than 14 reduces rifle torque a bunch, the use of the EDGE stock and the new Kelbly I have installed with their low action position reduces that torque even further and the use of the slower (N140-N135) powders results in less violent and more stable, less violent, load ignition. Checking the scores in TCL, watching the shooting reports from other ranges reveals that the 249/250 with 9X or 10X that used to win most of the time just do not cut it any more.  My last match my X count was only good for secont place and Dave almost exceeded the 100 yard record.  It makes me wonder where we go from here.  Several years ago it was common to hear that HBR must change cause its almost impossible to score a 250 and folks are loosing interest.  Look at it now, same rifle, different twists, different powders, different bullets (168gr used to be king) and yet someday someone will hit 25X................Larry
