    Quotable Quotes from Webster

With just a little over 3 months left before Webster City's 1st match - I thought I would share a couple "life lessons"  that I heard during last year's matches:

Can't wait to see you guys soon.

Set up #1:  Dean Walther was on relay #1 and I was on relay #2 on the next bench.  It was my first group match, so I was trying to figure out as much as I could as fast as I could.  Dean was shooting really good.

I asked him what he watches in his flags.  He pondered for a moment then replied,  "Well....I watch the angle of the flag and the velocity of the tail."  He then turned and walked away.  I thought for a moment - then turned from my bench and yelled "Hey Dean.  Isn't that everthing?"  He just smiled and walked away.

Set up #2:  It was the end of the day on Sat's score match.  LaVern Nelson was getting ready to clean his rifle in his trailor.

"#$%#$% damn wipeout.  $#%$%^, $%^%^$.  "Bang" - something big just hit the inside of the trailor.  $%^^%*^% trigger %$^%^^%& all over my %^%^&^& stock.  %^%^^%*&* "Boom" - something bigger just hit the inside of his trailor.    I didn't go see what was going on - but am pretty sure he held the button down a little too long while putting wipeout in his barrel.

Is this a quotable quotes thread?

Super Shoot 1998. I don't think any of these guys are still shooting bench rest. Dave Dohrmann and Alex Dutko were staying together at the Royal Star Motel in Orrville in room 102. Joe (Competitive Cartridge Boxes) Maisto was in room 201 and had asked for an early AM wake up call. Alex arrived at about 1:30 am after driving down from Beverly Hills, Michigan. Not wishing to surprise Dave, Alex asked the lady at the desk to call Dave first. The lady dialed 201 instead of 102 but realized her mistake after one ring. She hung up and called 102. Joe Maisto heard the phone, assumed it was the 6:00 AM wake up, got up, showered, dressed, and went down to the lobby. He saw darkness outside and asked the lady what time it was. 2:00 AM didn't sound good to Joe so he read her the riot act and went back to bed. After the completion of shooting that afternoon, a number of shooters were in the lobby including Rich Griffon, Ron Hoehn, Don "Pumpkin" Nielsen, Paul, me, Dave Dohrman, Alex Dutko, Joe Freeman, and many more. In walked Joe Maisto. Still unhappy, he again chided the lady at the desk for waking him at 1:30. Munching on an ice cream cone, Dave Dohrman asked Joe what it was all about. Joe told him the story I just told you. To this Dave Dohrman responded while looking over the top of his glasses, are you ready for this? "Tell me Joe, do you get out of bed, shower, get dressed, and come to the lobby every time the phone rings?" And then he took another lick of ice cream.

My favorite is from R.G. Robinett “That’ll never Work”

    My 2nd favorite is from Big Mike, “250-18X, that’s a semi-respectfully score”

3rd " What Would Brad Do?"

    I love it!!!!

Here's another short story:  It was during my very first score match at Webster.  Heard people talking about a "wailing wall" and didn't know what it was - so I went to look.  "Heck yea baby!!  I won a door prize!!"  I said as I was looking at my targets.  Stan Ware looked up - looked at my target - and let out a roar of a laugh.  "No Stanley, 'Fat Head Award' is not a door prize"

Somebody had shot a 8 or 9 and was at the whaling wall trying to explain what happened. They said the wing was blowing this way the mirage was runnig that way and then the wind picked up the mirage switched so I held over here and the @$%&#!!! the shot went right where I aimed. The reply was " Well don't aim there"

This one is from the old Mason City, Iowa range where we used to shoot BR before it moved to Webster City:

The late Dan Hackett was loading quietly on one of the picnic tables, as was his custom. All of a sudden, he yelled:

"Shoot low, Sheriff!  They're riding Shetlands!"

Must have had a shot go high.......
