Has anyone heard that berger is changing the 6mm 105 vld and its not for the best i guest their going to change the meplat or the tip and the and the bullet is going to have a lower B.C it has something to do with jacket problems. i guest not sure but the 105 vld hunting bullets will be the same no changes in the dies.
Hello, Bob, according to Eric Stecker, of Berger Bullets, the 105 VLD (Match/Hunting) bullet will be unchanged - these come in the 'hunter orange" boxes - it seems that by trying to keep the shooting public informed, they have created confusion. The discovery that the Berger 105 VLD make excellent hunting bullets can be credited largely, to John Porter, of Cody, WY, bighorn sheep and elk guide of some note - he bagan telling me about the terminal performance over ten years ago - he was using them with GREAT success/results on both sheep and elk . . . and at some awkwardly LONG distances to boot. Once John became associated with the TV program, The Best of the West, word of the Berger VLD performance spread rapidly . . . last year, Berger, began labeling the original VLD design bullets as HUNTING/MATCH. That's pretty much it - According to Eric, the VLD type bullets should be the same as always.
Only the new THICK Jacket Berger 105 will be affected by the change in nose profile and meplat diameter - on the Berger web-site, these topics are discussed in depth. Berger Bullets recommends against using the THICK jackets for hunting, but once again, states that the original VLD is good for both hunting and MATCH use! Good shootin'! RG
