Precision shooting, stalking, = Fox Hunting in the deep snow!

Since being laid up the past 6 weeks do to some unexpected surgery, I've been living vicariously through hunting posts on the board and tales of my hunting buddy Brian chasing the elusive rooster without me and my trusty Lab Kody.  The past few years has been bleak fox hunting in S/E South Dakota due to lack of snow and a bout of mange that hit the population.  Not this year, my buddy Terry and his trusty SGR Smithed 700 in 17 Remington took care of business!  With 20' of snow on the ground and -15 temps he scored these beauties.  Note the color variation on the "Cross Fox", a true rare trophy!  I've only seen one while hunting 10 yrs ago and never got the cross hairs on him.  Terry is also an accomplished taxidermist and plans on a full body mount to preserve this fine specimen.

     Way to go Terry!!

Congrats Terry!.... and Todd, "Thanks" for sharing the picture and story. I have wondered why there were no pictures of  You, "Kody" and piles of SD roosters....now we know, hope you are recovering well....now back to the story of Terry's success. "With 20' of snow on the ground and -15 temps he scored these beauties" ..... Ah Hah... and there is one of those pictures of a SD hunter in below zero temps with "bare hands" and no "top cover"....man, you guys are tough out there!...even "Mike-n-Mike" in IA wear gloves and hats :>)..here is an old pic I exchanged with Al of how I dress for a hunt when the temps "dip" into the +30's....no exposed skin here on this old body..:>)

Great Pictures of a great SD hunt.....Thanks again for sharing

Take Care and recover quickly Todd

WoW! Thanks for sharing the pics and details, Todd! :) For the most part, here in IA, the coyotes have displaced/replaced the red fox  - this stirrs fond memories! That cross is one great looking fox - Congratulations, Terry! :) RG

Sure is a great looking fox. But I'm just wondering what the fox was crossed with?

Awesome picture.  I've never seen or heard of a fox looking like that.  Back in NW IA, Bill Sebern (Steve's uncle) got me into shooting by hunting fox.  I did put a sneak on a silver fox, but never anything like that.  Cool.
