Here's a spy report, just received from a well known 1K competitor - I'm keeping his name out of it, because I do not [yet] have permission to use it, but want to make a point: "They don't give trophies for the HIGHEST BC" 1 ;) As an aside, just yesterday, during the Iowa State VfS CHAMPIONSHIP, I proved this also - but, in REVERSE ! ;) I was shooting, by a wide margin, the highest BC bullet (.57) on the line, but it provided no mercy for my poor judgement . . well, maybe it "SAVED" me from shooting a couple of EIGHTS, but five NINES made for being just another name on loser list . . . When I was asked to present the awards, the first thing I looked for was 'my' HIGH BC trophy . .but I'll be damned if I could find one . . . ;(
But here's the 'flip-side' of the record: . . . I had Dave (Tooley - GREAT gunsmith and competitor) set the barrel back 1 thread and that gave me the neck tension I believe I needed for your 187gr bullet in my 12” twist barrel. With the new throat Dave and I traveled to Quantico on the weekend of June 5th/6th for the VA State 1000yd Championship match. I went back to basics on my load, seating depth, and neck tension and ended up with the HG Overall championship right out of the gate with it. It was a 4 target agg match and I won 3 out of the 4 relays for group. And I also was able to shoot my first ever perfect 100 score in 1000yd competition with them. I’ve been at this game a long time but had never been able to do that. My 4 targets were 7.814” / 89 score, 5.550 / 100 score, 5.828 / 97 score, and 7.291” / 84 score and for a group agg of 6.621” and a score aggregate of 92.500. So I ended up winning HG Group, 2nd place for HG Score, and that gave me the Overall HG Championship.
With an extremely limited number of opportunities, the BIB 187 Gr. FB bullets has been used by competent competitors, to win/place/show, AND set HG RECORDS, at an outrageously disproportionate rate . . . and still, such performance is considered a "fluke" ! ;) Below is a copy of the 10-shot 1K group, which scores 100-3X . . .
Please don't consider this complaining - I make all the bullets I need to make . . . I'm never disappointed, just amazed at how tight we can cinch-up the blinders! ;) RG
