    First called coyote

A hundred and some stands later and i finally got one to come in to the call.

I've been hunting coyotes and fox for a long time and have called in coyotes all over the country except here at home. I thought maybe my stand selection was wrong or the sounds i used where not  right for my coyotes, or maybe the coyotes spotted my truck and so on...

I tried alot of different things to get one to come in and it finally happened on Sunday. I made a stand in one of the same places i normaly do, and i used my ATV to get me there and then hid the ATV behind a hill and walked in and made a stand. I started out with some rabbit blues, but used a different type of rabbit...Waited for 5 minutes and nothing showed so i switched to some coyote vocals and  with-in a few minutes i spotted my first home called coyote comeing in from 500 yards..The coyote took its time comeing in, it walked most of the time and stopping once in a while to look area over and then i would call some more and it would start to move in again. I finally got it to come to about 200 yards out and then it locked up on me.

I switched to a mouse vole and then it walked a 100 yards closer and stopped. Coyote was almost 50 yards from me so i started to take a few more shots with the camera and when the coyote lost interest i let it walk off in the same direction it came and when i could'nt see it any longer i got up and walked back to the ATV..

    Tim,

Thanks for sharing the pictures and the "write up"....very interesting. I seldom call coyote in warm weather but I have on occasion called in an area that held an animal that was causing problems with livestock or other domestic animals....I have found them to be "tough" in warm weather and I attribute that to more folks being "out and about" that equates to more exposure to the coyote making them much more cautious when in open areas.......however, try to call in "thick" brushy areas and it seems that they will respond better. The fact that you "brought" the animal pictured as far as you did across open terrain means that you were doing something right!....or she had a den full of hungry pups to feed....?....anyway, it was a good story and thanks for sharing your experience!
