Hello all. This
is our (Steve Grosvenor and Jason Stanley's) third year of running the postal
matches. Last year we had over 60 shooters from all over the US. This year, we hope to have as many or more
shooters. We have 2 goals for this
season:
1.
Provide
an economical and fun way to shoot competitively.
2.
Promote
the sport of Benchrest Shooting to people of all ability/equipment levels.
POSTAL MATCH RULES FOR 2010
Last Updated: 1-15-10
Classes
Varmint for Score. (VFS)
These are benchrest rifles that weigh no more than 13.5 pounds. Forearms can
measure no more than 3 inches wide. These rifles must meet all other IBS
guidelines and/or NBRSA guidelines.
Hunter/Varmint Hunter Class (6X).
These rifles can weigh no more than 10 lbs. Forend is no wider than 2 1/2".
Scope limited to 6 power. 6X rifles must meet all other IBS and/or NBRSA guidelines.
Modified Factory (MF).
MF rifles fall between VFS and Factory guidelines. These are rifles that have
had a new or custom barrel installed and/or do not have a factory chambering.
Factory rifles that have a custom trigger installed fall into this class.
Rifles that are produced by manufacturers with the primary intent of target use
or competition will be considered MF. If
the manufacturer describes the product as Semi-Custom it will be considered MF
for our purposes. Any rifle that comes out of a factory custom shop will be
classified as a MF rifle.
Factory Class (F).
This is the toughest class to put stipulations on. What might be factory
at one range might not be classified factory at another range. For the
purposes of the 2010 postal, these are our stipulations for the Factory
Class: Rifles that are essentially rifles as they came from the
manufacturer or are factory produced. The barrel must be a factory barrel
and must be chambered in a caliber as it came from the factory, re-chambering
will not be allowed. The rifle must be able to accept more than 2 rounds,
exceptions: break opens and falling blocks. These rifles can have very
minor modifications from their "out of the box" configuration.
Actions can be bedded and barrels floated. The factory trigger can only be
modified to improve trigger pull and creep. We want this class to be the
"spirit" of factory. If you have any questions about whether
your rifle fits the Factory Class or the Modified Factory Class please call or
e-mail Steve. Thank you for your understanding.
Distance
All matches must be fired outdoors at a measured distance of
100 yards.
Terminology
Each Match
will consist of 5 record bulls plus 1sighter (bottom right bull).
Each Agg
will consist of 5 matches.
The Postal Tournament
will consist of 5 Aggs.
Shooter's number
Each shooter will be assigned a
number. That number along with the agg due date will be on all targets.
Participants that paid for all five aggs - your targets will be mailed to you
all at once. You must use the targets that are designated for that agg.
Meaning, the shooter's number, match #, and date must all correspond for that
particular agg. If you fail to shoot a match/agg, those targets for that match/agg
are invalid.
Teams
There can be four person teams
within each class. Teams must be made up of shooters from the same class. If you wish to be placed on a team let Steve
Grosvenor know. If you have a four person team indicate that on the entry form.
There is no additional fee for teams and the team structure is encouraged, as
there are prizes for successful team participation.
Postal Tournament Schedule
You can start shooting your targets as soon as you receive them. If you are returning targets from an
organized match - it must be contested after March 1st and before
the due date of the Agg you are sending them in for.
Targets for Agg One
must be returned with the postmark no later than May 5, 2010.
Targets for Agg Two
must be postmarked no later than June 2, 2010.
Targets for Agg Three
must be postmarked no later than July 7, 2010.
Targets for Agg Four must be postmarked no later than Aug
11, 2010.
Targets for Agg Five
must be postmarked no later then Sept 22, 2010.
Turning in Targets from
an Organized Match/Tournament
You may submit a set of targets
that have been fired in organized matches. You must tell us BEFORE
you shoot the match/agg. Meaning,
you can not shoot a great tournament then decide to submit those for the
postal. You should give instruction, in
writing before the match, to the match director that you intend to use the targets
from that match for your Postal Agg. In this way, he knows ahead of time that
you will need those targets back.
Sending Your Targets Back
If you want
to score your targets you can, however we will use an IBS scoring reticule and
our score is the final score. The
cheapest way to send your targets back is to simply fold them in half and put
them in a manila envelope.
Send targets to:

Match Scoring
All matches are standard IBS Score Matches.
A shot's value is dictated by the "best edge" method. As in IBS, scoring the half inch bull shall
be valued at 10 points. The next ring will be valued at 9 points, the next at 8
points, and so on down to 3 points. Any shot outside of the rings and in the
square are valued at 2 points. The dot in the center is called an "X". It has
no additional value and is used to decide the winner in all ties. Placing will
be handled as follows:
1.
Total Score
2.
Total X count
3.
Score count starting with Match 1 - Match 2 - etc
4.
X count starting with Match 1 - Match 2 - etc
5.
Dropped X's starting with Match 1 Bull #1
In the event that
there is more than one hole in a record target, the shot with the lower value
shall be the score given. If your FIRST shot at the sighter is outside the
sighter square and hits in a record square we will give you an alibi and you
may shoot again at that record bull. Your sighter target is in the lower right
corner of each target.
Scoring Conflicts
In the event there are any conflicts, Steve Grosvenor's decision is final.
Communication
Steve and I realize that emergencies
arise that are out of your control and make it impossible for you to turn in
the targets during the time period. Forgetting is not an emergency. Steve
and I will work with you, but we must know BEFORE the post-mark deadline. If your targets are not postmarked by the
correct date & we have not heard from you, you will receive a 0 for that
set of targets.
Bottom line: If there
is a problem, just contact us and we will work with you. If you do not contact us, we will assume
you did not shoot that agg.
Spreadsheet
All the results
(scores, prize winners, equipment, etc) will be posted on Bench-Talk.com. There will be a postal spreadsheet with many
tabs. Simply click on the tab you want
to view. You will need Excel or Excel Viewer
for this operation to work on your computer.
We will not be snail-mailing results.
If you have questions contact Jason Stanley.
Awards
* Cash paybacks in each class for each agg. (amounts and number of paybacks will be determined
based on # of participants per class after entries have been received)
* We
are going to try and do different types of prizes for individuals and teams
each year. Therefore, we do not know
what those prizes will be at this time - just that we will do something. We will post what we are going to do on
Bench-Talk.com before the 1st match is due.
Prizes
Various individuals and companies
have donated some very nice prizes. In order to be eligible for the prize drawing, you must
have paid for all five aggs postmarked by March
17, 2010. All prizes will be drawn before the first match is
due. In the event that we get more prizes as the season goes on, we will have
another drawing at the end of the
season.
If you wish to contribute a prize, send a certificate for that prize to
Jason Stanley. The certificate will be sent to the winner and the winner can
make arrangements with the sponsor to receive it.
Items/Certificates we have for the Prize Drawing(s)
Items that
have been donated to us will be posted on Bench-Talk.com and Benchrest Central as we receive them. Once the matches start, all postal
information will be on Bench-Talk.
Prize Distribution
We will mail you the certificate for the prize if your name is
drawn. You can then make arrangements
with the supplier.
Support of Our Sponsors
Please
consider our supporters on your next shooting purchase and please thank them
for supporting the postal - even if your name is not drawn. Without our sponsors, we could not even come
close to giving away such great prizes.
Their support is greatly appreciated.

agg will be $17.50 per class. If you
choose to have all the targets for the five aggs sent to you at one time, the
fee will be $65.00 per class. Entry
